  Biography

  Ward Cunningham is the Chief Technology Officer of AboutUs.org, a growth company hosting the communities formed by organizations and their constituents. Ward co-founded the consultancy, Cunningham & Cunningham, Inc., has served as a Director of the Eclipse Foundation, an Architect in Microsoft’s Patterns & Practices Group, the Director of R&D at Wyatt Software and as Principle Engineer in the Tektronix Computer Research Laboratory. Ward is well known for his contributions to the developing practice of object-oriented programming, the variation called Extreme Programming, and the communities supported by his WikiWikiWeb. Ward hosts the AgileManifesto.org. He is a founder of the Hillside Group and there created the Pattern Languages of Programs conferences which continue to be held all over the word.

  Biography

  Selena Deckelmann is an enthusiastic Open Source advocate and PostgreSQL specialist. Her work ranges from the highly local–organizing the Portland PostgreSQL User Group–to planning national conferences, and international outreach to other user groups and events. She is also a founding board member of Legion of Tech, a non-profit focused on connecting Portlanders through technology. She has presented at LUG Radio Live, OSCON and the Linux Plumbers Conference on working with Drupal, running user groups and measuring filesystem performance. She will be presenting at FOSDEM, SCaLE, PgCon and OSCON in 2009.

  Programmer at Elevated Code working with Ruby, Rails, and occasionally iPhone development. Writer of essays, recipes, horror comics, and knitting patterns. Photographer working with digital and film cameras, including Polaroid, Holga, and pinholes. Community organizer of unconferences like WhereCampPDX. Core team member of the infamous Calagator.       Code sprints are events where developers quickly complete coding tasks in a collaborative environment. A panel of skilled developers will share their experiences for organizing effective code sprints so you can better participate and organize your own. The panel members have organized and participated in over a hundred sprints (ranging from Django to JRuby) and used sprints as the primary way to develop community-oriented projects (e.g., Calagator). While most of the discussion will be about volunteer-run open source code sprints, many of the ideas will be readily applicable to improving development at your workplace. The panel will offer practical, actionable advice that you can use and answer your questions.
