Introduction to data munging with pandas and IPython Notebook

Accepted Session
Short Form
Scheduled: Wednesday, June 24, 2015 from 1:30 – 2:15pm in B204

This talk will go over importing, exploring, and exporting your data, and common issues you may encounter.

Pandas is a powerful tool for data munging, and IPython Notebook is uniquely suited to the variety of media and documentation associated with data exploration (including narrative and visualization). Learn how to import and export, explore through summary statistics and high-level plotting, and use IPython’s magic to make documentation fun!

Speaking experience

I've taught workshops on data visualization both in Portland (through Meetup) and at a design school in Seattle, given presentations on data munging at Reed College and University of Oregon, and presented at conferences on my thesis research.

I've given variations on this talk before that haven't focused on python, but larger data vetting practices.
