As we discussed at the town hall last week, we have an immediate need for volunteers that want to help with operational stuff at our venue, the Oregon Convention Center (OCC), and at Hilton Portland, where the all-hours hackspace will be.

In the past, we’ve been a bit spotty about matching volunteers to tasks; we’ve got a bunch of stuff to do, and a bunch of people who want to help. Connecting people to tasks has been the tough part. I guess you’ll have that when you throw a bunch of DIY-geeks together on a project.

Anyway, we’ve got an event to produce, and we really need your help!

We’re trying to find people to fill the following list of roles. The list is a mix of planning and day-of tasks. So, ideally, you can find something that fits your schedule.

Have a look and let us know in comments (and please complete the volunteer form, indicating your areas of interest) if you’d like to step up for one or more roles.

Telecom coordinator
This person works with the OCC to ensure we have plentiful bandwidth, wired drops where necessary, dependable and fast wireless.

Food coordinator
This person works with the OCC to set a menu and schedule the meal catering.

Space and Facilities coordinator
This person works with our event manager at the OCC and manages all the moving parts related to the space where the conference is.

Hacker Lounge Event Coordinator
We’ll need a person to manage all the goings-on in the all-hours hackspace, scheduling and executing, working with the Hilton to ensure we have what we need.

Hacker Lounge Event Assistants
These people are day-of volunteers who will assist the coordinator and guide people around the lounge.

Volunteer coordinators
This is a very important role. We’ll need a person to manage day-of volunteers, ensure they’re trained and know what they’re doing. Because the fun doesn’t stop when the conference is over (see hacker lounge), we’ll need an evening coordinator too. Everyone needs to sleep.

AV Support Specialists
These people manage any A/V issues that may arise during the conference. We’d like one per room, working in shifts. So, we need several volunteers.

Event Support
These people assist the coordinators with any/all tasks that arise during the conference.

Greeters
These people help our attendees find their way around the conference.

Registration Assistants
These people help our registration vendor check people in and get them their badges.

Gophers
Or is it go-fers? Anyway, these people run and get stuff that other volunteers need. Probably a good idea to have your own transportation.

Media and Sponsor Liaisons
These people help our lovely and generous sponsors find what they need.

Badge Checkers
We’ll need a small army of people to check badges at the OCC to make sure we keep out the gate-crashers.
