UPDATE: See bottom of the post.

Scott (@zenpuffin) posted this message to our mailing list today:

Since OSB is at a new location this year, we can re-use the food cart map but not the coffee and food maps from 2009. I have started some preliminary maps for these which can be found here:

OSB 2010 Coffee Map:
http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?hl=en&ie=UTF8&msa=0&msid=116475709565834901227.000483e8339e7368dae12&z=16

OSB 2010 Food Map:
http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?hl=en&ie=UTF8&msa=0&msid=116475709565834901227.000483e88c08455aadac8&z=15

These maps are now linked to from the wiki. Please, if you can add some comments to the placemarks to inform people about whether the restaurants are good/spendy (“expensive” in non-west-coast jargon)/vegan-friendly, it would be much appreciated. Feel free to add additional placemarks as well. I’ve tried to focus on options that are a short walk from the museum or along the Max line.

Please check out the maps and add pointers for guests of the conference.

You’ll need to be logged in with a Google account to make modifications to the map. And when you click ‘Edit’, a new menu appears on top of the map which allows you to add items:

Thanks!

We’re kicking off the last day of Open Source Bridge—the unconference day. And while we’re sad to see this entirely volunteer run event coming to a close, we’re looking forward to celebrating what we’ve accomplished with all of the attendees, speakers, volunteers—and the Portland tech community.

So let’s do that, shall we?

The official after party will start with Beer and Blog—Portland’s tech happy hour—starting at 4 PM at Webtrends. (Beer and Blog will also be going on at the Green Dragon, as usual. But the Portland crowd plans to migrate over at Webtrends as the afternoon wears on.)

But wait, there’s more.

The party will continue—around 8 PM-ish—as we move across the street to the Open Source Bridge hacker lounge at the top of the Hilton for more Strange Love Live, the best tech podcast in Portland, if not the world.

If you had the chance to chat with Strange Love Live at the conference, you’ll want to get on the set again. Because this time around, it’s all afterhours, all the time. In other words, no holds barred on the conversations—tech or otherwise.

Both after parties are open to the public, whether you attended Open Source Bridge or not. So come on down and join us in closing out the first Open Source Bridge.

From 6:15-7pm on Wednesday afternoon. We got connected to her through Christie Koehler, who is managing volunteers on-site during the conference AND giving a talk on Tools for Freelancers.

Preparing for Open Source Bridge

As the date for Open Source Bridge gets closer I’m feeling some butterflies about offering a session on yoga at a conference for developers. I am excited to work on a series that is short compared the the usual classes I teach.

I’m very interested on getting to focus on caring for those joints that get so much stress spending long hours at a computer or at the end of a long day at a conference. I am looking forward to showing people some easy things they can do when they’ve got a few minutes. Simple yoga that can be done anywhere, anytime, with only the kind of “equipment” you’d find in a conference room.

Yoga is easy, accessible, and a valuable tool for everyone. It doesn’t require fancy props or special packaging. It may have a few complicated terms and techniques here and there, but there’s a large community of people working to help others learn and share knowledge. In a lot of ways I think yoga has some interesting similarities Open Source! I hope people feel free to ask me about my theories after my session on Wednesday!

While at the conference I’m really looking forward to the ‘Teaching System Administration” session since I do a lot of coaching, including sysadmin level topics. As a person without a DBA I’m also very interested in the “5 Things to Know About MySQL If You Don’t Have a DBA” session! I look forward to seeing the “Re-factor Your Brain” session goes, I think it is very complimentary to my session.

I really value and am very grateful to the Portland tech community for encouraging me to submit this decidedly different session.

We occasionally hold larger events, so sign up for the mailing lists to find out what’s going on.

Sounds interesting doesn’t it? Well, if you’re in Portland a bit early for Open Source Bridge, you can head to Dorkbot PDX on June 14. Heck, you might even want to plan to be here early so that you can participate.

Here’s who’s on the docket for the next gathering:

Andrew S. Parnell

Pieces to be discussed include Semaphore-bot, Tangólumen, and Cardiolumen: a multifaceted exploration of the data we create both consciously and unconsciously and their inherent value.

Andrew S. Parnell is a Portland based digital artist. His work primarily deals with the physical manifestation of digital information using code, image capture, and electronics.

Michael Bunsen

Dome Control: Altering a space via physical and web-based interfaces

Michael Bunsen spends most of his time on the internet but is more interested in nature and the outside world. He developed Urbanedibles.org and began exploring microcontrollers to cultivate his mission of using the computer to get people off the computer.

Dan Gilsdorf

A presentation featuring works from 2006 to the present, including the recent exhibitions Interiotrope, 2008 and SRO Video, 2009.

Dan Gilsdorf is a sculptor and installation artist based in Portland. Using video, sound, and mechanics, his work addresses the mediating effect of technology on physical and cultural landscapes.
