Attendee Wiki
Conference Feedback
From Open Source Bridge attendee wiki 2010
- Keynotes: Usually okay for 9am, no earlier
- Transcribing: hire stenographer? (perfect notes, more accessible, searchable)
- Liked long sessions
- Too many long sessions
- Flip long sessions to be in the afternoons some times.
- Hardware talks? Approved
- FPGA
- No session on how to replace facebook (yes there was)
- If your session will be noisy, please flag that early
- Will there be live demos (new check box)
- Django talk got canceled :(
- Schedule talks with live demos to be after lunch
- Make it an option for people to request cabled internet for live demos
- More panels and group discussions
- Wired mic cables were too short
- Presenters need to be reminded of proper mic placement
- Sound issues sometimes took a while to be resolved
- Schedules - hard to find long descriptions
- Registration - take photo of each attendee, attendee annotates, goes up on a wall (could be twitter wall)
- Speaker names on paper schedules
- Paper schedules were awesome!
- Badges need to show names on both sides; add twitter handle; make clear in registration what will be on the badges
- Useful to have mobile web version of schedule
- More assistance in how to meet people, networking
- Curtains: mixed result, generally positive
- Splash back of sound against room
- As a speaker it was hardly disruptive, but for participants it was distracting
- Aisle down middle of seat set up.
- Number of concurrent sessions: generally perfect/happy
- Good length of sessions, great length of breaks
- Good length of lunches
- Hacker lounge at this location = awesome
- What if we shut it down at 2am? No particular interest.
- Would you pay an additional fee if we included a party at the venue? Generally yes.
- Secure storage for hardware, luggage would be nice.
- choir sessions and yoga session both = awesome
- structured signage at weddings
- sandwich board or whatever to help direct people to the correct building.
- unconference: how can this be added for mobile apps? schedule software for barcamp?
- extend museum pass etc to a non-conference day
- more whiteboards (in session rooms and the hacker lounge)
- snack times - morning tea rather than afternoon tea
- cookies good, one prefers mezza plate
- some interest in donuts, but not big cheers
- 50/50 split on preferring morning tea or afternoon tea if only one.
- fundraising: encourage businesses to get involved early
- coffee++ and the water all over the place++
- tea was great, hot chocolate please
- more power outlets in the lounge (or don't hide them under the tables)
- more tables instead of keynote seating?
- portland theater style seating (classroom style)
- power in keynote seating area, might have made it more used
- power was exceptional
- wireless was awesome (after a few day one glitches)
- more wireless security?
- travel agency - would prefer discount code for hotel instead
- please introduce organising committee at start of conference
- parties: speaker party was great!
- start-up crawl = awesome
- bofs a little late in the day
- open track for bofs? schedule at dinner time? schedule at lunch?
- redundancy between bofs and unconference (one constant unconference track?)
- need suggestions of good food places nearby venue for dinner options
- how could we make the wiki better? (create users)
- replace link to "Wiki", integrate that into the main site a bit better
- great idea to have a wiki page for each session, but should ask speakers to remind attendees to be involved
- create a role of note taker for each room/session
- star rating systems for feedback for each talk
- hall way track less fun (perhaps a conversation pit, with couches or what?)
- where to meet to get together to go get food
- some wiki drop in or another, wagn?
- for those not going to beer and blog... last minute meet up some how
- scavenger hunt was an awesome idea
- speakers could use screenflow software to make it easier some how...
- It would be really useful to have a quick lightning talk or ignite-style roundup of the day's topics at the beginning to clarify each topic (at times the descriptions were somewhat misleading), and to quickly demonstrate the speaker's style
- more recycling bins so we don't generate so much trash! plastic hot cup tops, plastic cups, compostable tea bags, and paper, paper, paper!
- Integrate (anonymous?) session feedback into the system
- Two Hacker Lounges: one by day at the venue, one at night with alcohol
- The website should prominently link to the UStream and Etherpad sites for OSBridge
- Proper walls between talk rooms. +2
- T-shirts. For sale separately would be fine.
- Capture audio and video feeds for all talks and post on youtube/vimeo/whatever.
- Attendee profiles, sortable/searchable by tagged interests, skill-sets.
